Metchosin Day Event

From small beginnings in 1967, Metchosin Day has grown over the years into a really big community event.  The annual one-day fall fair, held every year on the first Sunday after Labour Day, is a family oriented, pet friendly, free event.

This year saw over 150 vendors participating, and thousands of visitors coming from all over to enjoy the beautiful day.  Starting with the pancake breakfast, bright and early at 8 am, the day was jam packed until the lamb and salmon bbq in the early evening.

A very busy day...

A few of the vendors...

There were hay rides...

And sheep shearing...

Vintage cars...

And even Morris dancers....a form of English folk dancing dating back to at least the 15th century.

Pearson College, one of only 15 United World Colleges around the world, had some of their international students participating dressed in the colours or national dress of their countries, giving the day a very colourful and multi-cultural feel...

And some members of VEMRA came out as Romans, part of the Ninth Legion Hispana.  Representing approx.  43 AD, when Rome invaded Britain...

We had a basic encampment set up, showing some of the typical foods and armour of the day.

...and giving a sense of the life of a Legionnaire to all those interesting in joining up...

All in all a great day.
