Homefront Event

In previous years, the big June event out at Fort Rodd Hill was a Timeline type event, with several other re-enactment groups participating and many eras represented all the way to medieval and roman.  This year, the theme was set as Women on the Homefront.  As this would be predominantly representing the 1940s, we decided to combine it with our annual D-Day commemoration for a bigger two-day WW2 themed event.

We had a particularly good turnout of members on the first day.

The whole gang...

Many different impressions were represented.  Including the PCMR, or Pacific Coast Militia Rangers, a home guard militia unit unique to the west coast...

... French Resistance fighters...

...Russian Navy, which might seem a bit random, but in fact there is a connection. The city of Victoria adopted the Russian port city of Sevastopol as a sister city during the war to raise funds and supplies in aid...

Women's Land Army and W.I. (Women's Institute) Ladies, and more...

There were a variety of activities to participate in, including making seed bombs (for planting) and making button pins. Children found these two particularly fun, especially the first one as it involved getting very very dirty.  There was also a 1940s hair tutorial/demo.

And last but not least, a display and then a fashion show of vintage wedding dresses...

The second day unfortunately had rain off and on for most of it and consequently far fewer people turned up.  But all in all, a fantastic weekend.
